DRINK

Common drinks during this period were beer and wine. Water wasn't safe to drink, therefore they resorted to the things they had which were safe.

ALE AND BEER
Beer was made with barley, hops weren't added until much later. Godale was stronger than regular ale beer. Another ale called small beer, was simply sweetened with honey, or had a bit of ambergris or rasperry in it. Ales were sometimes flavored with bayberries, orris, or long pepper.

CIDER
Cider was made by cutting up apples, pouring water over them and heating them up. The apples were removed and what was left was cider.

FRUIT WINE
Wine made from fruit juices (not grapes) was made; fruit such as cherries, curran, mulberries, raspberries, and pomegranates. There was also a sour wine made from grapes which had already been crushed for their juices, with water poured over it.

Other types of wines drank in the summer were made from almond milk, apricots, filberts, apricot and strawberry syrup, and cherry and raspberry water. MEAD
Mead, made from honey, was a sweet drink enjoyed by all.

WINE
Sweet wines were sometimes mixed with hyssop, myrtle, rosemary, or wormwood with honey added. White wine was simply wine made with spices and honey.
