WOMEN

Clothing of peasant women were normally out of wool, linen, or sheepskin while clothing of the upper class was made of velvet, fur, silk, lace, cotton, or taffeta. These were many times dyed, making them even more expensive.

Upperclass women layered their clothing starting with breeches, chemise, hose and covered with an underskirt which was long. A gown with wide sleeves and a train was worn over, made of cotton, fur, lace, silk, or velvet. the gown had many gems and lace on them for decoration. An overtunic was put on over the dress and finally a long cloak trimmed in fur was pinned at the shoulder with a broach.

Shoes worn in the castle were made of cloth, leather, silk, or velvet and buckled while outdoor shoes were leather and wood. They wore long, braided hair with a piece of silk draped/pinned over their hair. The material was then wrapped around the throat and tucked into the gowns neckline.
